New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Hi, I'm Carmenita Helligar an 18-year resident of Burbank, Congressman Adam Schiff’s 2022 Woman Of The Year. I am the Founder/CEO of Local As Can Bee (LACB), an E-Commerce marketplace for small business owners. I am a dedicated volunteer in the community of Burbank, California where I sit on the Library Board. I also serve on the Burbank Unified School District’s Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Committee. They focus on inclusive curriculums, mental health, and equity of college classes for all students.
In addition to juggling my family obligations and my passion for helping others, I am one of the founders of The Destiny Education Project (DEP). DEP is a BIPOC-led organization empowering school boards, teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members to elevate public education by disrupting educational models based solely on productivity, progress standards, and quantitative assessment models for learning. I sit on the board of Elevate Burbank where our mission is to promote the understanding of cultural diversity through events, engagement, and partnerships with the Burbank community.
I am not the status quo. You can look at me & immediately see I am not the status quo. But I still believe in community – and I believe in my community. There are far too many lines drawn in the sand when it comes to the City of Burbank, and we simply won’t make it until we can learn to work together. I will not sit here and make idle & empty promises; I will listen to all sides. While respecting the history & past of this city, I will make it my mission to work closely with my colleagues to move Burbank into a new age of diversity, inclusion, and redefine what it means to be a community.
I am Carmenita Helligar. I am a mother, a wife, a friend, and a hopeful member of Burbank’s City Council 2022
